If you’re struggling to figure out your work-life balance, look no further. Here are some ways to keep a healthy distance between your personal life and work. 

1. Exercise Mindfulness 

In the hustle and bustle of the corporate world, it’s hard to settle our minds. We’re always overthinking and taking on more than we should. One way to combat this sensory and mental overload is to practice mindfulness. 

Mindfulness, put in simple terms, is practicing the art of focus. Focusing on calming the mind from over-stimulation will result in better performance. It will also keep you from burning out. 

Meditation is one way to pursue mindfulness. It’s certain to do the trick. But if you’re hesitant to meditate, try journaling instead.  

2. Remove the Need to for Perfectionism

It’s easy to get caught up in the need to be perfect. It’s especially so when your boss nit-picks or your salary depends on it. 

But perfectionism has a way of driving people to the edge of sanity. You can no longer relax or go home because you have to get it perfect.

Put the item down for a while and come to it after you’ve had time to breathe. Chances are you’ll notice fewer mistakes in your work, and you’ll be happier. 

3. Spend Quality Time with Loved Ones 

When we’re too busy, the first casualties are our relationships.

Once you’re out of practice spending time with loved ones, it’s hard to get back to it. Intimacy, especially, takes the hardest hit. When that happens, dissatisfaction settles in at work and at home.

4. Set Boundaries 

Setting boundaries is one of the best ways to create a healthy work-life balance. Drawing a line between your time off and your time working will make you feel better. How do you do this?

Choosing when to answer work phone calls is one way. Of course, not everyone has the luxury to turn off the phone. But if you do, take advantage. When you make it clear you’re not available after hours, you take back your freedom. 

5. Be Vocal 

Sometimes, employers aren’t aware of your feelings. They don’t know you feel distant from your family or overworked. So, have a one on one with your someone who cares; you may make a difference. 

If you’re an employer, don’t hesitate to ask around. If it helps, send out an occasional employee satisfaction survey. It’s up to you to make sure your employees are staying healthy.
