Why Does Car Glass Matter?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Laminated glass was first made in the 1920s when car makers essentially stuck two sheets of glass together with a sheet of PVB. It was then fused together using high heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This glass is considered safety glass, as it will<\/em> break in an accident, but it won’t fly into shards. It’s designed for heavy impact, essentially eliminating any passenger’s chance of being injured from it. If you get thrown into the window during an accident, it almost acts as a buffer between you and being ejected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tempered Glass<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Tempered glass is almost the opposite of laminated glass. Instead of being designed to not<\/em> break, that’s exactly what this glass does. It’s designed, however, to break off into small pieces rather than sharp shards (so you won’t get cut in the event of an accident).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to this, it’s normally used for door windows and on your back windshield. To make this glass, it’s treated with heat and then rapidly cooled. Vehicle ownership isn’t the only time you’ll see this glass, though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s stronger than other glasses, so it can be used for other household items. Your smartphone screen is actually made from tempered glass, and so are kitchen materials like baking sheets and dishes. You might even find that your sunglass lenses are made from tempered glass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s fairly easy to replace tempered glass if there’s a minor chip, but that isn’t always the case. In some cases, it’ll need to be completely replaced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
