This feeling can be infectious, even spreading to you after a bit. As you’re probably noticing, doom and gloom isn’t exactly good for productiveness.

The best way to sweep this feeling under the rug is by adding in a bit of fun to the workplace. This will make your employers happier all around and a happy worker is a productive worker. Even so, you don’t want to introduce so much fun that everyone is distracted.

To help you find a good balance, check out this guide on how to have fun in the workplace without compromising professionalism.

1. Page-a-Day Calendars

Page-a-day calenders is a cute way to introduce fun into the work environment. They come in a variety of wacky themes and jokes that your employees may find amusing.

Bonus points if everyone in the office has a different calendar. This prompts fun discussion throughout the office.

2. Go Out at the End of the Month

It’s good to celebrate success. This gives everyone something to look forward to as they work diligently through the month. You can do this by holding a little office party to celebrate exceeding sales numbers or you can take everyone out for food and drinks at the end of the workday.

This allows everyone to talk and get to know each other outside of a work environment. You wouldn’t think it but this simple change of scenery will cause your employees to act more like their true selves. Lasting friendships will bloom from it which is great because everyone needs a work BFF.

3. Decorate

Employees have fun with decorating their offices. It’s their chance to really make the space their own. Looking at bright colors and family pictures while you work is a lot more enjoyable than just staring at the inside of a white cubical.

Letting your employees do this to their office spaces is also a great morale booster. You could even do a fun contest to see who has the most creative design.

4. Sports Tournaments

Nothing brings a workplace together better than a company team building activity. You can do this with the name game, or you can play sports games together. We know the concern you may have here is productivity but you don’t have to host this during the workday.

You make it an after-work thing or have it going on during lunch. If it’s something that your employees are enjoying you could even start up a league.

5. Laughter Yoga

Laughter yoga is like regular yoga but with the healing power of laughter thrown in. It’s best to do it as a group because it’s easier to throw in goofy facial expressions and jokes.

This practice is a good one to ease tension before a big business meeting. It will also make said meeting more productive. It will make everyone a lot more creative anyway.

6. Humor Board

Again, laughter is the best medicine in any situation. This is especially true if you have any ongoing work conflicts. Just because they are conflicts doesn’t mean that you can’t poke fun at them.

Build a humor board every single Monday that addresses office conflicts in a funny way. This will sort of make them seem less like a big deal.

7. Success Bell

When someone has a big accomplishment they like for attention to be brought to it. It makes them feel appreciated and like they are making a real difference in the company. That’s why you should set up a success bell.

Whenever someone does something awesome such as make a big sale, they will ring the bell. Once they ring the bell then everyone can cheer them on. For at least a few minutes out of the day, they’ll feel like a superstar.

8. Have Meetings That Aren’t Related to Business

Every meeting that you call to order doesn’t have to be work-related. It’s recommended that once a month you call your employees together for a fun meeting.

For example, you could do a little improv acting class. They’ll have fun and improve many of the skills that will make them better at their jobs such as communication, public speaking, and adaptability. They’ll be able to handle a lot of conversations with customers that they may not have before.

Improv is just one fun business meeting idea that you can go with. There are a ton of things that you can do.

9. Celebrate Special Occasions

It’s easy for an employee to start to feel like they are only a number to you. This will cast that dreary cloud over their heads. One way to clear it is by celebrating big events like birthdays and work anniversaries.

You don’t have to go big. Put a cake in the breakroom, tell them happy birthday, tell them you’re glad they’ve decided to stick around for so long, give them a gift card, or give them a certificate thanking them for their services. It’s the little things that matter.

How to Have Fun and Brighten Up Your Workplace

When one employee is feeling dreary, this feeling will sometimes spread to the rest of the workers.
