How polite is too polite? How do you maintain a balance of professionalism, amicability, and personal growth all at once? These concepts can be difficult to understand and even harder to practice.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is why it&#8217;s always good to have a standard set of office etiquette rules to help you be a real team player, no matter where you are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are a few do&#8217;s and don&#8217;ts to inspire you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Be Mindful of Personal Space<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps you share a cubicle workspace, or you simply&nbsp;have separate desks. Avoid keeping your stuff in their space, taking objects without permission, peering at their computer screens and getting too comfortable in their space. Personal space is important, respect it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">There&#8217;s Bathroom Etiquette Too!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Do your part to keep the communal bathroom clean. Be mindful of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/workplace-bathroom-etiquette_b_5812646\">the little things<\/a> and make sure you remember to clean up after yourself!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Be Aware of Your Surroundings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps you and a few colleagues are sharing a hilarious joke. It&#8217;s all in good fun, but its also rather loud. Be aware of where you are and whether the noise is causing unnecessary disturbance to a fellow co-worker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Want to indulge in a hearty laugh? Great, take it outside! Unless everyone in the room is participating it is rude to disrupt the peace!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Learn to Respectfully Disagree<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Conflict is <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.ou.edu\/Employees\/Career-Development\/Resolving-Conflicts-at-Work\">a workplace inevitability<\/a>. If you&#8217;re wrong, hold yourself accountable. Everyone makes mistakes, admitting to it will only make you better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have disagreements over ideas of productivity, innovation or strategy, learn to politely disagree. Simply state the rationale behind your views, hear your colleague out, and agree to disagree. If it&#8217;s regarding a work-related decision that needs to be made &#8211; put it to vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But whatever happens at the end, be gracious about it. No one likes a sore loser, and much less a cocky winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Go Team, or Go Home!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When you think team &#8211; you&#8217;re thinking communication, cooperation and putting your own prejudices aside for what works best for the company. It&#8217;s all about the big picture. Whether you&#8217;re an in-house employee or a remote one, working in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beoffices.com\/virtual-offices\/virtual-business-addresses\/south-east\/milton-keynes\">this virtual office<\/a>, miles away &#8211; this is the least you can do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Choose Your Gossip Wisely<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Everyone loves to indulge in a bit of gossip &#8211; workplace or otherwise. Now, this can even be a great bonding experience if you&#8217;re using it to communicate, provide comfort, create meaningful solutions, or if the person is <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/s\/office-politics\/tricks-for-dealing-with-toxic-colleagues-fc19677300d6\">really&nbsp;toxic<\/a>, &#8211; vent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even then, <a href=\"https:\/\/positivepsychology.com\/challenging-workplace-gossip\/\">have some rules<\/a>. Do not spread false rumors about your co-workers. If you have a complaint &#8211; stick to the facts and be tactful about it. There&#8217;s also a time and place to do this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don&#8217;t mindlessly chatter about your boss or colleague within your premises. Over some post-work drinks is fine. Your colleagues can be your friends over drinks at the bar, but at the office, they&#8217;re simply&nbsp;your co-workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Respect: The Underlying Principle of all Office Etiquette<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Office etiquette stands for respect, above all else.
