Here are several ways of preventing slips, trips and falls for your company’s entire workforce and clientele.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

1. Efficient Housekeeping<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Step one of preventing any workforce accidents is by making an exhaustive effort towards good housekeeping techniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Installing habits such as daily custodial maintenance, warehouse\/office safety walk-throughs, and scanning for potential danger each week can significantly lower your chances of an accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take the time to set a routine and expectation of what each department can do to meet your standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hold your custodians to a high expectation of cleanliness, hold your workforce to using the safety measurements you’ve given them, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They come in all different shapes and sizes but usually cost between $8-$26 depending on the quality you’re looking for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Always have around 2-3 ready to use, it’s helpful to prepare for those days where there are several spills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Refrain from Walkway Obstacles<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Anytime there’s an object in the middle of a walkway in your workplace you have the potential for disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All it takes is one employee carrying a heavy box they can’t see past or just simply not paying attention to trip over it and break their arm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lead by example and move items out of a walkway whenever and wherever you see one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s lodged into the wall\/outlet just enough to resist a person’s foot or leg getting caught under it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That means your employee, who’s carrying something heavy, will go tumbling to the ground with whatever they were holding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuck the cables under something, tape them down along the wall, or store them somewhere that they won’t be in the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Encourage Proper Shoes for the Job<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Making your workplace safer with things such as these steps<\/a> is sure to limit the chances of an accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, you also want your workers to take precautions as well. If your place of work is known to get slippery often, such as the kitchen of a restaurant, then enforce your workers to wear comfortable non-skid shoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don’t assume that’s common knowledge. If your employee slips, and you never enforced non-skid shoes, they have a case for being hurt due to your negligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. Monitor Employee Behavior<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes the safest way to protect your employees is by protecting them from themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you notice a certain employee has bad work habits that can result in bodily harm, such as improper lifting technique, use that as a teaching moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doing so will show your employees that you genuinely care about their well-being, which plays in your favor if a lawsuit were to ever happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9. Floor Mats are Your Best Friend<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If your workplace has been known to have a wet floor due to the operations of your business, such as a winery or warehouse, then you have to adjust your plan accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the best things to have for a workplace like that is rubber floor mats. They add an extra layer of traction for your employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
