For most of us, the workplace is always a steady source of anxiety everywhere and every day. And that’s why it’s imperative that we put our health first at every opportunity.

So with that sentiment in mind, let’s delve into a few wellness tips for the workplace, that we can practice every day.

1. Surround Yourself With Good Nutrition

Good nutrition is vital to our well-being. However, more often than not, we are surrounded by food that isn’t as good for us as it could be. A typical workplace has a steady stream of crisps, donuts and an assortment of foods that do no favors for our physical, nor mental health.

So surround yourself with more nutritious options like fruits, fresh juices, and yogurt. Then the next time you feel like a quick snack, you’ll have a healthy option right next to you!

2. Take a Walk

People generally associate most forms of exercise with weight loss. But far more than that, exercise is simply a great way to trigger all those feel-good hormones with you.

Unfortunately, most workplaces create an atmosphere that doesn’t allow for much movement or activity. But here’s where we encourage you to break the norm! Find a way to incorporate some movement into your schedule, even if it means taking ten minutes out of your lunch break for a brisk walk.

3. Stay Hydrated!

Sometimes you get so caught up in your work, that you let yourself slip into dehydration. One thing you could do to avoid this is to set reminders to drink water at least every hour. Make sure you keep a bottle of fresh water around you or use it as an opportunity to take a quick walk to your kitchen for a refreshing drink!

4. Take Frequent Breaks

Staring at a screen all day can really take a toll on your vision. So try and take a two-minute break at least once, every twenty minutes. Shut your eyes or simply breathe; just look away from your screen!

Stretch yourself out in your seat, do some simple exercises and let your mind run free.

5. A Clean Environment

Take time to organize your work desk and put things in order. A cluttered desk often reflects a cluttered mind, and it can be quite therapeutic to just take a minute to rearrange your space.

6. Feel Safe, Stay Safe!

All of these wellness tips mean nothing if you don’t feel safe at your workplace. If you feel like you’re caught in a toxic environment or feel threatened in any way, it might be time to consider leaving.

Of course, that might be easier said than done; often it isn’t an option. In that case, make sure you have friends outside of work who you can talk to and lean on for moral support. However, if things like sexual harassment come into play, know that there are plenty of groups out there who are dedicated to helping you.

Don’t be afraid to ask!

7. Practice Healthy Communication

Maintaining healthy workplace relationships is essential to your well-being. And we all know that the key to any kind of relationship is effective communication. So put that into practice by setting healthy boundaries, communicating your thoughts openly and being open to sharing and hearing new perspectives!

If you’re someone who finds communication difficult, practice writing down your thoughts or recording yourself speak. Star small, with a single person and then build your way up to more people when you’re comfortable.

8. Pay Attention to Air Quality

Certain workplaces are often prone to environmental hazards like poor air quality. The presence of toxic substances in the air can cause immense damage to your physical and mental health. Make sure your workplace is working towards clean air quality, and if they aren’t, push for it!

As explained in this article, air ducts carry tons of dangerous substances, and regular cleaning is absolutely vital for a healthy environment.

9. Create a Social Support System

There’s no one who’ll get your work stress like your fellow colleagues. So set the competition aside, and be there for each other. Try not to engage in petty gossip and be kind whenever you can.

Join in the comradery, plan fun events and spend time together. Your mental health will thank you!

10. Have a Good Laugh

Laughter really is the best medicine, and you can’t overdose. Take some time to watch a few funny videos, have a good laugh with your colleagues or read a funny comic strip. Anything that can get you to smile, is a good thing.

11. Practice Mindfulness Every Now and Then

Sometimes all your brain really needs is to take a few minutes off from work, at work. So when you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, let yourself forget about that pending report or that big presentation. Take a few deep breaths and let your mind find its peace.

No matter how stressful something might seem, there’s always a way to ease your mind.

Share Your Wellness Tips for the Workplace With Your Colleagues

And now that you’ve got some good wellness tips for the workplace, ask your colleagues to share their own! Talk to each other and share your wisdom. A truly healthy environment can only be achieved when everyone is working towards it.

Like this article?
