In the beginning, office spaces were blandly uniform; very little (if any) personality was expressed in the offices, and as a result, the workers suffered.

The times have changed now, and expressing personality is a big part of makes workers enjoy being in the workplace.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you need to allow your employees to bring their furry baby to work, but that does mean you should give them the freedom to (moderately) decorate their office space.

The Layout Matters

The way your building is laid out means more than you think.

Think of this from the point of view of a new recruit. If the recruit walks into a compact area with no freedom to really move or explore, they will feel trapped in their own workplace.

However, if the building is open and expressive, they will want to be the same way.

Try to find a happy medium between comfortable and functional, so your workers will love where they work and get stuff done.

Remember Ventilation

Finally, you have to remember your employees need to have clean air in order to work properly.

Ventilation is a big deal when you have a ton of people crowded in one building. Old, smelly air must be circulated out to keep the room from getting stale and keep it smelling great.

Of course, there are many other reasons why you should want to have a ventilated workplace, but at the end of the day, just make sure that it’s there.
