Freshwater Fish
If you’re new to caring for fish, freshwater fish may be your best choice as it’s cheaper to buy them. Another benefit of choosing types of fish that dwell in freshwater is that they don’t need that much attention. For example, you’ll only need to clean out the tank every few weeks, and if you want to extend that time, you can add certain freshwater snails that help clean the aquarium.
Let’s now discuss some of the most common freshwater fish you can buy.
Betta Fish
Unfortunately, most freshwater fishes aren’t as colorful as their saltwater cousins, but that’s not the case with betta fish. As they normally display vivid colorizations of blue and orange, which can bring life to your aquarium. The only issue with these types of fish is that you can’t put them with other males since they are known to fight each other.
Common Goldfish
Most people aren’t aware that a properly cared goldfish can live up to 25 years. One downside about having a goldfish is that it can grow up to 16 inches, which means you may need a bigger tank.
Saltwater Fish
As you can expect, there are plenty of extraordinary saltwater fishes you can add to your aquarium. But, of course, these types of fish are expensive and require special care as any imbalance in the tank may kill them. So, be sure to understand well how to care for brackish water aquarium fish before you purchase any.
Here are a couple of interesting ones you can add to your collection.
Damselfish
These saltwater fish come in dozens of bright colors and are perfect for beginners since they don’t grow too large. The only issue with these types of fish is that they tend to need lots of shelters, so you’ll need to make sure to add enough shelters to your tank.
