Are Etsy shops successful? Well, considering that Etsy has over 3 million active sellers, it’s safe to say that an Etsy shop can be successful.

However, not everyone who puts up shop will find success in Etsy. You have to know the right ingredients to launch a successful Etsy shop.

While you can delay setting up a whole brand until you have the intention to make it big, you can start today with the basics. Have a shop name, a logo, a shop banner, and a basic theme you can apply in all your postings. 

2. Set the Right Prices

Pricing seems easy, but it’s more complicated than you think. For a start, you should consider the costs of all your materials and products. It’s still somewhat easy at this point because you have a clear reference. 

Then, you have to factor in the amount of time it took you to create the product. This is where it gets tricky as it’s non-tangible. 

How many hours did you put into making it? How much worth do you put in your time?

After that, you have the running costs, such as electricity and your net connection. You’ll have to consider the costs of maintenance for your equipment, as well. 

It gets trickier from here on because you also need to look at the market value and perceived value of the item. Price too high and you might lose customers to a competitor. Price too low and your customers might think you have an inferior product.

Check the market to see the average price of your product. You don’t have to stick close to it, though. As long as you can justify the pricing, then you’re good to go. 

3. Create the Perfect Product Listing

When we say the perfect product listing, we’re not referring to those with the bare minimum. It doesn’t only consist of the product title, a photo, and the description. 

We mean those with each element optimized for more views and sales. This is what makes a successful Etsy shop.

The product title should be well-optimized with keywords. Think of what your customers need to enter into the search box to find your product. Use descriptive words, as well, to increase your visibility. 

For instance, “women’s cardigan” might work. Still, your product will work better with a title like, “Soft 100% Organic Merino Wool Oversized Cardigan, Knitted Women’s Fall and Winter Clothes.”

With the second title, customers looking for “fall cardigan,” “merino wool cardigan,” or “women’s cardigan” will find your product.

The next element is the picture of your product. It must be of high-quality to make it compelling. Photograph your product in its most flattering angles in a well-lit environment.

Remember that your customers like making informed decisions, as well. Since they cannot see the product in person, provide different angles of your product. Use close-up pictures of interesting details, like the beautiful buttons you used or the quality of the weave.

For the cardigan in the above example, have a model wear it so the customers will get a better idea of the scale.

Finally, we have the product description. This is what pretty much convinces the people to buy the product. 

Make it as descriptive as possible, and tell a little story of how you made the product. Use words to paint a compelling picture of your product in their heads. Describe the value it will bring to their lives. 

4. Set Specific Short-Term and Long-Term Goals

What’s your goal when you set up shop in Etsy? Is it to supplement your income, have a business that will allow you to leave your job, or grow it into a wholesale business?

Whatever it is, it’s usually a long-term goal. We, humans, don’t take well to such because we’re wired to lose interest when we don’t get satisfaction.

A local painting company, for instance, might want to go international in the future. But this isn’t attainable in a couple of months. If you don’t have short-term goals, the long grind to that goal might burn you out.

Break down your long-term goals into attainable ones to avoid burnout. Make sure these goals become bigger as they go; they should eventually lead you to your long-term ones. 

5. Market Your Products

Once you finish setting up your store, it’s not enough to wait for customers to start trickling in. You have to go where they are. 

Consider marketing your products to other social media platforms. Be active on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and even Interest.

You can interact with your buyers this way. Remember that it’s hard to connect without a physical store, so you’ll have to make efforts in connecting with your audience online. 

You don’t have to use all platforms, though. Determine which one gives you the most traffic back to your site. Then, you can start spending money on advertising. 

Being on multiple social media platforms increases your visibility. For new business, visibility is one of the most important factors of success.
