A yard is a source of pride for many homeowners. It serves many purposes, from improving your home’s property value to providing a nice place to relax in the great outdoors. Unfortunately, yards require serious labor to keep them in great shape, and it doesn’t take much for them to get out of control.
Are you interested in tackling some serious yard cleanup? Read on to learn how to get it done!
1. Remove Debris
When it comes to yard cleanup, the first thing you want to do is make sure that everything you don’t want in it is removed. This can include everything from leaf to unwanted litter to old knick-knacks.
Grab a roll of trash bags, a rake, and a reacher tool for items in hard to reach places. Start by removing litter and trash from your lawn, then move on to raking up fallen leaves.
Finally, go through the items you currently have placed in your yard to determine what you want to stay and what should go. Don’t care for that lawn gnome? Trash it or donate it.
2. Pull Weeds and Unwanted Plants
Your next step is an important one. Weeds and overgrown plants can wreak havoc on your lawn, so you’ll want to start your plan for getting those cleaned out.
There are many different ways to remove weeds. You can grab a hoe and remove them from a large section of your lawn, but keep in mind that using a hoe can often expose weed seeds to sunlight and promote further growth. You can also pull them out by hand, a task that is best done after a good rain.
You can also use weed killers to get rid of weeds, but be careful to use one that won’t kill your grass and other plants you want to keep. If you have a large patch of weeds, you can lay down cardboard and cover it with mulch to get rid of them.
Once you’ve gotten rid of weeds, be sure to mulch flowerbeds and any area where you want to keep them away!
3. Mow, Edge, and Fertilize Lawn
Your final step in your lawn maintenance plan is going to be to mow, edge, and fertilize your lawn. If you have a reasonable-sized lawn to care for, a self-propelled lawn mower will get the job done just fine. If you have lots of land, then you’re better off buying a riding lawn mower to save you time and sweat!
Fertilizing your lawn is most effective at the beginning of the growing season in your area.
Don’t have the time to perform all of this maintenance? Hiring out for yard care can help save you a ton of time and keep your yard looking fantastic!
Yard Cleanup Can Be Fun!
Getting motivated to get out and start your yard cleanup is half the battle! Once you’ve got your plan of attack, you’re ready to go out and whip your yard into tip-top shape. Once you get your yard looking how you want it, make sure to keep up with it on a regular basis to save yourself a ton of work later!
