If you are guilty of waiting for something to break before fixing it you know first-hand how it can affect your business negatively. It also ends up costing businesses thousands of extra dollars every year because it is much cheaper to maintain than to repair. To help you save money we have put together this preventive maintenance checklist.
Keep reading to learn more about how to take a proactive approach towards maintenance instead of reactive.
Lighting
You want to include lighting at the top of your maintenance checklist and make sure that all of the lights in your facility are on your checklist. You do not want to forget exit lights, interior lights, lamps, and exterior lights.
If you notice any lamps that are starting to fail, consider relamping all the lamps at the same time and create a schedule to continue to relamp them at the same time moving forward. Take the time to dust lamps and make sure they are aimed the way they are meant to be.
For all of the exterior lighting you want to check that the cabling and the hardware are intact. Sometimes the weather or rodents can ruin exposed cables outside and it can cause chaos or even a fire in some cases.
HVAC
As part of your building’s maintenance checklist, staying on top of the HVAC will help cut down on energy bills. You want to make sure to clean the air intake to keep it free of any debris. You also want to change all of the air filters according to their schedule.
Watch out for the AC freezing up and contact a professional to prevent the problem from getting worst. Include checking the condensate drain pan to make sure that it is draining properly.
Plumbing
You want to look out for any leaks or funny noises during your plumbing inspection. Make sure that all the bearings in your pump systems are lubricated as needed.
If your building has a sump and sewage pump, keep these lubricated and do a visual inspection for any leaks.
Safety
Safety should always be part of the checklist. Check all of the eyewash stations and bottles to make sure they are stocked and working. Every first aid kit in your building should be restocked.
If you have fall protection harnesses and kits, take the time to inspect them and make sure they are in good working condition and replace them as needed. Any smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and flashlights should have the batteries changed during the maintenance routine.
Now You Are Equipped With Our Preventive Maintenance Checklist
As you can see there are quite a few things that you want to make sure you add to your preventive maintenance checklist. Staying on top of everything we mentioned above will help you avoid unplanned situations in your business.
