What Your Site Can’t Be Without: 10 Essential Construction Items

Are you a building site manager?

It’s not a job to be taken lightly. When supplying the site with all of the necessary construction items, there is a lot to consider.

All of the safety documents and protocols must be in place. Otherwise, your workers could get injured or even killed.

So we’ll take a look at just ten of the many items your construction site needs.

1. External Cable Protectors

Any time there is electrical equipment, there will be wires coming from all different directions. In this case, it is essential you have external cable providers.

They’ll not only keep the wires protected from heavy wheel traffic at the site, but they’ll also prevent potential employee accidents.

2. Hazard Tape

If you don’t have all of the necessary items to create a heavily fortified barrier, hazard tape is a quick and reliable way to cordon off areas from the public.

It is also effective in drawing attention to potential hazards or dangerous areas at the construction site.

3. Health and Safety Policy

It is crucial that every member of the crew understands the health and safety measurements in place. So be sure that the H&S policy is available on site so they can refer to it when needed.

4. Dump Truck or Skip

A construction area that is littered with rubbish is not safe. You’ll want to ensure there’s either a metal dump truck or a skip on a maneuverable dolly so you can get rid of waste.

5. First Aid Kit

Construction work is high-risk. Even when everyone is careful, accidents happen. So in case of any mishaps, it’s vital there is a first aid kit that complies the all of the first aid requirements

6. Work Platforms

The easiest and safest solution for times when a worker needs a lift is a platform ladder. But a scissor lift can be equally effective; especially for workers who need to lift heavy items.

7. Portable Cabin

Every construction site needs a portable cabin to serve as the office from which the foreman operates. This is also the place where all of the important documentation is kept. The best portable cabins are modular units that could be later be used for other purposes, including storage or a small workshop.

8. Spare Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

PPE can become easily damaged or soiled while on a construction site so having back-up PPE is essential for every project. Plus, visitors to the site may be required to wear a hard hat or hi-viz vest.

9. Traffic Cones

Traffic cones are used to create temporary road lanes on busy roads, as well as to protect road workers. But they can also be used as a barrier to divert traffic or pedestrians around any construction site to avoid accidents.

10. Mandatory Signs

Even when workers know the rules, it’s important that they have constant reminders on the site. To ensure that actions are carried out in certain areas, it’s mandatory you post signs such as “Wear goggles” or “Use ear protectors.”
