10 Ways to Reduce Your Plastic Waste

Did you know the world has produced over 8.3 billion metric tons of plastic and that 91% of it isn’t recycled?

Kind of staggering isn’t it? We thought so too.

However, there are ways to reduce waste, especially harmful plastics!

Follow along for our top 10 tips!

Ways to Reduce Waste

Every effort counts in the battle against plastic waste. Following these simple tips and making these small sacrifices can go a long way toward a healthier planet!

Additionally, make sure you’re disposing of your waste responsibly. Same-day rubbish removal companies exist to help you get rid of your waste fast and conscientiously.

1. Stop Using Plastic Straws

Nearly every restaurant and store that sells drinks sell them with plastic straws. Millions of plastic straws are being produced, used, and discarded every day.

2. Use an Eco-Friendly Waterbottle

In the United States alone, 60 million plastic water bottles are thrown away every day. Instead, invest in an eco-friendly reusable water bottle for one of the easiest ways to reduce waste.

3. Don’t Use Plastic Grocery Bags

Another one of the best ways to reduce waste is by bringing your own grocery bags to the store. Using non-disposable bags all year round could save hundreds of plastic bags for each person.

4. Don’t Use Disposable Razors

While disposable razors may be more convenient for you, they’re horrible for the environment. Invest in a decent razor which only requires the blades to be replaced.

5. Buy in Bulk

Buying in bulk means more food and less packaging. Larger quantities of food require less packaging than if you were to buy two smaller packages.

6. Buy Products in Boxes, Not Plastic

Many eco-friendly companies are using cardboard boxes and packages instead of plastics. This help in a tremendous was as it takes the responsibility out of the consumer’s hands. Use these products instead of the ones still being packaged in plastic.

7. Don’t Use Disposable Diapers

Did you know a baby can go through up to 10 diapers a day? That’s a lot of waste! Opting for reusable diapers instead of disposables can have a huge positive impact on the environment.

This is one of the best ways to reduce waste as a parent.

8. Don’t Use Plastic Utensils

Plastic utensils are incredibly wasteful. Using them at parties, picnics, and road trips isn’t necessary. Instead, use metal utensils and take the extra time to wash them later.

9. Don’t Use Plast Wraps or Sandwich Bags

Plastic wraps and sandwich bags are great for keeping foods fresh, but there are better options! Invest in non-plastic food containers as one of the simplest ways to reduce waste.

10. Stop Chewing Gum

Gum is made of synthetic rubber, a.k.a, plastic. Every time you spit a piece of gum out (admit it, we all do it), you are adding plastic waste into the environment.

However, throwing it away isn’t a whole lot better, as it is still a non-bio-degradable substance.

Do Your Part

As you can see, there is a plastic epidemic in the world. While it may seem like a single person can’t do much in a world literally full of plastic waste, every effort counts.

The more people who become environmentally conscious and find ways to reduce waste, the more stable our planet will become. Make no mistake, however, as we have a lot of work to do,

Start today. Minimize your use of harmful plastics and find ways to reduce waste!
