Keep reading to learn about RV storage mistakes to avoid and what you should actually do!

1. Forgetting to Empty Everything

There are tons of nooks and crannies in your RV. When it comes time to store it, the last thing you want to do is forget to empty everything – like your shampoo, toothpaste, and candy that you hid from the kids to save for yourself.

You should create a checklist to know everything you have to get out. When emptying the fridge, it’s also a good idea to defrost the fridge and freezer and leave the door open so no mold grows.

2. Not Investing in an RV Cover

Covers for RVs may be something that doesn’t cross your mind when it comes to putting the RV into storage.

However, this cover can protect your RV from all different types of damage. The cover will protect it from the sun’s rays and any potential leaks from snow or rain while it is in storage.

3. Not Removing the Batteries

Before you put your RV into storage, you must remove the batteries. If a battery freezes and cracks, you’ll be out a lot of money.

By properly storing the batteries, you can save the life of the battery and save yourself a lot of money!

4. Choosing the First RV Storage Place You Find

Based on your RV storage budget, you may be locked into a few options. And that’s okay! You’ll just want to spend some time shopping around before choosing the right RV storage.

Double-check that the RV storage units are affordable, clean, and secure. You may also want to check reviews and hours in case you have to contact the storage place.

And of course, make sure to go through the RV storage preparation checklist before storing it.

5. Failing to Empty the Water Lines and Pipes

Failure to empty the water lines in your RV can cause the pipes to freeze and burst while in storage.

Be sure to empty out every single pipe, and for extra winterizing, you can add some antifreeze into the pipes. You can add antifreeze to the toilets and into the drains as well.
